Abbys Case Update - July 18 2024
Since April 2023, I’ve been fighting for Abby’s rightful compensation from the health authority. This past year has been overwhelming with the amount of information I’ve had to process.
As Abby’s mother, I’ve struggled with anger, sadness, and despair over what happened to my daughter. I had to step back from my career, which I love, to take care of my own mental health and support Abby. It hasn’t been easy, but I’m taking it one day at a time.
The financial burden has been immense; I’ve lost income this year due to stepping back from my career to care for myself and Abby. The costs of Abby’s medical trips this year have overwhelmed my already stretched finances.
During this year, I’ve dealt with my emotions and learned more about the negligence Abby faced—the lack of care from nurses and morning doctors. It’s been incredibly challenging. Recently, I thought we were making progress when the insurer assigned Abby’s case to an external law firm.
Today, when I asked for a timeline and next steps, I was surprised to receive an email criticizing our medical expert. Despite the qualifications of our medical expert, the health authority and their lawyers are still avoiding responsibility for what happened to Abby. The insurer and their lawyers continue to insist that I get a lawyer, making my fight even harder and playing games that wouldn’t be accepted by another law professional.
I’ve attached the correspondence and the medical expert’s letter, with sensitive details removed for privacy reasons. I’m not protecting those who harmed Abby by choice; I’m taking precautions against legal issues while seeking justice.
Throughout this ordeal, I’ve remained determined to fight for Abby. She deserves justice, and I won’t give up until we achieve it. With the help of one of my good friends we are putting together Abbys Story which she herself wrote, we created a childrens book and will be putting that up for sale shortly. We are just trying to figure out the best way to present her book online in order to keep costs low. Every single cent from the sale of her book will be added to our fund to get Abby the justice she deserves.
